The Fire

Gwinnett County 911 received multiple calls reporting a rapidly growing garbage fire inside a commercial warehouse at the GSL Transfer Station. Fire crews arrived on scene at 2:38 p.m. and encountered a significant volume of trash burning inside the structure.

Approximately 40 firefighters and two ladder trucks responded, deploying multiple hose lines and elevated master streams. Seaboard Industrial Drive was closed to support water supply from two hydrants. Once the fire was brought under control at ~6:05 p.m., two commercial excavators were used to remove smoldering debris.

Cause

Gwinnett County fire officials determined the warehouse fire was accidental. According to employees, the fire originated from a small trash fire near the edge of the warehouse. Workers attempted to remove the burning debris, but the fire rapidly intensified before they could contain it.

Injuries

One worker was transported to Northside Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life-threatening burns. A second worker was evaluated and released on scene.

Airport Impact

The nearby Gwinnett County Airport was not involved and not affected by the smoke plumes.

Context

The facility is a commercial waste transfer station. This fire is included in the broader April 2026 cluster of industrial fires but has no labor/wage connection and no arson determination.
