The Fire

A five-alarm fire broke out at One Stop Lumber & Floor Coverings, a 64,000 sq ft two-story industrial warehouse at 130-17 23rd Avenue in the College Point neighborhood of Queens. FDNY received the call at 7:30 p.m. reporting an odor of smoke. Units arrived within five minutes and discovered heavy fire conditions originating on the second floor, where the lumber yard was located.

The fifth alarm brought:

  • ~270–300 firefighters and EMS personnel
  • 84–90 units
  • 8 tower ladders deployed completely surrounding the structure

The high volume of combustible lumber forced FDNY to abandon an interior attack. The fire was declared under control at 7:58 a.m. on April 11, approximately 12.5 hours after ignition. The entire building was destroyed. No injuries reported among civilians, firefighters, or EMS personnel.

As FDNY Assistant Chief Michael Meyers stated: "The high volume of fire and the large amount of fuel limited their ability to put that fire out."

Ownership & Operations

The facility is identified as One Stop Lumber & Floor Coverings, located at 130-17 23rd Avenue, College Point, Queens, NY 11356. No further ownership or corporate details have been reported.

Investigation

FDNY fire marshals are investigating the cause. As of April 16, 2026 (latest research date), no cause determination has been publicly released. No arson finding has been made. No arrests have been made in connection with this fire. No labor or wage-related motive has been identified or suggested in any source.

Note: This fire is distinct from the Flushing, Queens fire on March 16 (132-05 Avery Ave), which was a confirmed arson at a residential building by Roman Amatitla, charged with murder after four people died. College Point and Flushing are different neighborhoods; the Flushing fire involved a residential building, not a warehouse or commercial facility.
